Viscoelasticity and rheological hysteresis

چکیده
Rheological characterization of complex fluids subjected to cyclic shear-rate sweep often exhibits hysteresis. Since both viscoelastic and thixotropic materials show hysteresis loops, it is important understand distinguishing features (if any) in the same shown by either. Lately, there has been substantial work that attempts relate area enclosed loop with manner which shear rate varied cycle, order infer parameters a material. In this work, we use nonlinear Giesekus model study its response application sweep. We find produces each type ualitatively similar hitherto ascribed materials. also for material as function shows bell-shaped/bi-modal curves observed This illustrates caution needs be exercised while attributing loops associated exclusively thixotropy. Another feature related occurrence banding instability. may not have any connection

Rheological hysteresis in soft glassy materials.
The nonlinear rheology of a soft glassy material is captured by its constitutive relation, shear stress versus shear rate, which is most generally obtained by sweeping up or down the shear rate over a finite temporal window. For a huge amount of complex fluids, the up and down sweeps do not superimpose and define a rheological hysteresis loop. By means of extensive rheometry coupled to time-res...
متن کاملLoading and unloading of sedimentary basins: The effect of rheological hysteresis
[1] We present a model for the study of the effect of rheological hysteresis on compaction in sedimentary basins, when surface loading and unloading occurs. When compaction is slow (sedimentation rate is large and/or permeability is small), the hysteresis has little effect on the basal compaction layer, but in the more realistic case where compaction is fast (i.e., sedimentation is slow and/or ...

Abstract. This paper presents reviews of several models and numerical simulation models of non-linear and hysteresis behaviors of magneto-rheological liquid dampers in MATLAB®/Simulink® in the example of quarter-car model of vehicle suspension simulation, such as, Bingham, Dahl, LuGre and Bouc-Wen models. In addition, it demonstrates numerical simulation models built in MATLAB®/Simulink® and di...
متن کاملA thermodynamic theory of solid viscoelasticity. Part I: Linear viscoelasticity
The present series of three consecutive papers develops a general theory for linear and fmite solid viscoelasticity. Because the most important object for nonlinear studies are rubber-like materials, the general approach is specified in a form convenient for solving problems important for many industries that involve rubber-like materials. General linear and nonlinear theories for non-isotherma...
